How pleasant fall can be! It's harvest time, the air is cooler and the scenery is breathtaking.

Your dog or cat can also enjoy the joys of this colorful season. To keep your pet happy this autumn, here are a few important points to bear in mind.

Protect them from parasites

Even with the return of cooler weather, flea and tick season isn't over yet. These undesirables will be looking for a new home this winter: carpets, cushions, sofas, beds - in short, anything made of fabric and close to a source of heat - are places these parasites love. That's why it's important to continue treating your pet for fleas and ticks. What's more, when you return from a walk, remember to examine your pet's coat to make sure no intruders have settled in.

Help them through their moult

Autumn is a period of transition, during which temperatures gradually drop until the cold weather sets in. It's also a time when your pet sheds its summer coat to make way for its winter coat.

Cats suffer even more from the negative impact of shedding, since they ingest a large quantity of hair when they groom. The result? Yes, the famous hairballs that they then regurgitate all over the place. To help your pet, it's important to brush them every day. If your cat continues to regurgitate hairballs, offer them a laxative paste. You can also add an omega-based food supplement to help maintain a healthy skin and coat.

Relieve the pain of osteoarthritis

Just as in humans, a drop in temperature and an increase in humidity tend to reawaken the pain of osteoarthritis in our pets. You can help alleviate this pain by offering your companion joint-protecting food supplements all year round.

Keep them warm

With autumn comes rain, wind and cold. When walking your dog, remember to protect them with a sweater, coat or raincoat. These are great ways to insulate the skin and reduce body heat loss. They are recommended for small dogs, short-haired breeds, puppies and older dogs. It's important that the dog's movements are not hindered by the garment, and that it fits snugly.

Adapt its meals

With the change of season, remember to adapt your pet's diet. As with humans, your pet may be less active. To avoid weight gain, reduce the amount of food your pet eats, depending on its physical activity. When in doubt, ask one of our in-store specialists or your veterinarian for advice.

Fun tip

There’s no reason you shouldn’t celebrate the beauty of autumn with your pup! If you’ve got a lot of leaves lying around, make a mountain out of them and hide their favourite toy or treats in it! It will be quite the adventure for your pup!
