Puppies start nibbling on solid food at around three or four weeks of age. Always leave Pro Plan food mixed with a little water within reach of the puppy. Let them eat as much as they want until they are completely weaned, i.e. until they are six to eight weeks old. After weaning, puppies can eat Pro Plan dry food or with a little water. For best results, establish a regular feeding schedule, such as three small meals a day for young puppies. Gradually reduce to two meals a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Do not change this routine. As puppies approach adulthood, their calorie requirements decrease, so your puppy may leave food in its bowl. Don't assume that it doesn't like the food, but rather give it a little less so that it doesn't overeat and maintains ideal physical condition.
Research conducted by Nestlé Purina shows that avoiding overfeeding puppies can promote their healthy development. Maintaining ideal body condition is key to healthy growth for puppies, especially large breed puppies. Amounts are for guidance only. If your puppy is gaining too much weight, it is best to reduce their daily ration. You can consult your veterinarian to discuss a weight control program.
GUIDELINES FOR FEEDING PREGNANT DOGS:
Pro Plan food provides all the essential nutrients for females during pregnancy or lactation. Food consumption may vary during pregnancy; give your female the amount she needs to maintain ideal physical condition. During lactation, food consumption may double or even quadruple.
SWITCHING TO PRO PLAN:
Although you may be eager to see the difference Pro Plan can make for your dog, please allow for a transition period of seven to ten days. Each day, give a little less of the old food and a little more Pro Plan, until you are only giving Pro Plan. This gradual transition will help avoid digestive problems.
